The Perfect Weekend in Port Huron, Michigan

If you’re looking for a unique and memorable weekend getaway along Lake Huron, Port Huron is such a fun option—especially if you love being near the water and don’t mind a little adventure.

For our Rockhounds group, this has become a go-to destination every couple of years for one reason: rock hunting. Each trip somehow gets better than the last, and it’s the kind of place that keeps pulling us back.

Between time on the beach, great food, and a few unexpected experiences, this ended up being one of our favorite weekends yet.

Where to Stay

We stayed at an amazing Airbnb: Lakefront Shorewood Cottage, that we fully plan to return to every time we visit.

It was within walking distance of the lake (which is ideal for early morning or late-night rock hunting), located in a beautiful neighborhood, and had everything we needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Thursday

Start your trip with dinner at Casey’s, which quickly became one of our favorite spots of the weekend. We always ask where the best pizza in town is when we travel, and Port Huron definitely delivers—Casey’s did not disappoint (another great option for pizza is Pompeii’s Pizzeria)

After dinner, head back to your Airbnb for a relaxed night in—games, snacks, and settling into the weekend.

If you’re up for it, this is also a great night to try something a little different:
go rock hunting after dark.

Grab flashlights or headlamps, your rock bags, and head to the beach when the water is low. It was such a fun and memorable experience—and we all ended up finding some great pieces.

Friday

Start your morning at Raven Café, a cozy and eclectic spot with a great atmosphere and even better coffee. It’s the perfect place to ease into the day.

After breakfast, head to Everything Classic Antiques to browse for vintage finds and treasures.

Before heading to the beach, stop by M’z Sweets LLC Bakery inside Country Style Market and grab a few gourmet cupcakes to take with you. These were so good we ended up going back for more the next day.

Cupcakes on the beach…oh yeah!

For lunch, head to Freighters Eatery & Taproom. The fish tacos were delicious, and the views of the St. Clair River make it even better.

Spend the afternoon at Fort Gratiot Beach, one of our favorite spots for relaxing and, of course, rock hunting.

After some time back at the house to freshen up, head out to Vintage Tavern for dinner. If the weather allows, sit on the rooftop terrace—it’s such a great atmosphere with good food and drinks.

Saturday

Start your day with coffee and a light breakfast at Exquisite Corpse Coffee House, another great local spot with exposed brick, lots of plants, and a bright, open feel.

Next, hop on the historical trolley tour to learn more about Port Huron, then take a walk along the Blue Water River Walk to enjoy the views and see the bridge.

For lunch, take a short drive to Lexington and eat at Windjammer Bar and Grill, then stop at McCallum’s Orchard & Cider Mill. The donuts are fresh and delicious, and it’s a fun stop if you enjoy a mix of food and a little bit of a farm experience.

For your final night, head to Bootlegger’s Axe Co for dinner, then make your way to MoonCurser’s Speakeasy, tucked underneath the restaurant. With low lighting, piano music, and a 1920s vibe, it’s a really fun and unique way to end the night.

Sunday

Before heading home, stop back at Casey’s for brunch—it’s the perfect way to wrap up the weekend.

Final Thoughts

Port Huron is such a fun and slightly unexpected getaway, especially if you enjoy being near the water and want something a little different than a typical beach trip.

Between rock hunting, great food, and unique experiences like the speakeasy and trolley tour, it’s a weekend that feels both relaxed and full—and one we’ll definitely keep coming back to.
