The Perfect Weekend in Richmond & Centerville, Indiana

A weekend well spent in Antique Alley

The Highlights:

  1. Warm Glow Candle Company

  2. Centerville Antique Mall

  3. National Road Antique Mall

  4. 5th Street Coffee and Bagels

  5. 5 Arch Brewing

If you love antique shopping, Richmond and Centerville, Indiana make the perfect weekend getaway—especially since this area is home to the well-known Antique Alley. With a mix of large antique malls, small-town charm, and plenty of local spots to eat and relax, it’s an easy and memorable trip.

We visited in January and were greeted with a fresh snowfall, which made for an especially cozy weekend. While winter has its charm, I’d definitely recommend coming in warmer months if you want to take advantage of nearby hiking trails and spots like Thistlethwaite Falls.

Where to Stay

We stayed at a 3-Bedroom 1940 Cape Cod Airbnb located in the historic Reeveston neighborhood.

The house was comfortable and perfect for a girls’ weekend, with a fireplace, a great kitchen and dining space, and inviting bedrooms. If the weather had cooperated, this would have been a beautiful neighborhood to walk and explore—another reason to consider a warmer-weather visit.

Thursday Evening

Start your trip by heading to the Welcome Center to pick up your Chocolate Trail passport along with any brochures or local recommendations.

One thing we always do when visiting a new town is ask:

“Where’s the best pizza in town?” (More on that later…)

After grabbing a few recommendations, drop your bags at your Airbnb and head out to explore.

Make your first stop at Larry’s Antiques (though it was closed when we visited—hopefully you’ll have better luck), then take some time to drive around and get a feel for the area.

Stop for an afternoon coffee at Roscoe’s Coffee Bar, a cool, laid-back spot, and grab dessert next door at Lisa’s Cakes—your first official stop on the Chocolate Trail.

Next, head to Warm Glow Candle Company to browse home décor and sample locally made candles—it’s a fun and unique shopping experience.

For dinner, pick up pizza from Americana Pizza Co and bring it back to the house. The square-cut pizza and breadsticks were so good and made for the perfect first-night meal.

End the night in with something relaxed—games, a movie, or even a simple activity like painting. These low-key evenings always end up being some of the most memorable parts of the trip.

Friday

Start your day at 5th Street Coffee and Bagel, a must-visit spot with a cozy atmosphere and a beautiful seating area in the back filled with natural light, plants, and even a small fish pond. The bagels are made fresh in-house and are definitely worth it.

After breakfast, head to Centerville Antique Mall, one of the highlights of the trip. It’s huge—plan to spend a few hours here and maybe even bring a snack. The prices are great, the variety is impressive, and it’s easy to leave with some fun finds.

If you still have energy, stop by Wheeler Antiques, which is just down the road.

For a late lunch, head to 5 Arch Brewing Company. The food is great, and the story behind the name makes it even more interesting—definitely ask your server about it.

After a full day of shopping, head back to your Airbnb to relax for the evening. A cozy night in with games, snacks, and good conversation is the perfect way to end the day.

Saturday

Start your morning with a stop at Life Styled, a boutique filled with unique and thoughtfully curated items. They also sell loose leaf tea (I left with a few bags), and it’s another stop on the Chocolate Trail—don’t forget your passport.

Next, head to Lumpy’s Restaurant in Cambridge City for a late breakfast.

Afterward, spend the day exploring the antique shops along this stretch of Antique Alley. A few highlights:

  • The Log House and The Old Tin Roof (more high-end antiques)

  • National Road Antique Mall (great for more affordable finds and a larger selection)

In the afternoon, grab coffee at Legato, then stop by Parlor Doughnuts for another Chocolate Trail stamp. The savory options are just as good as the sweet—I tried the chicken bacon ranch doughnut and it was surprisingly delicious.

Head back to your Airbnb to relax, pack up, and enjoy one last cozy night before heading home.

Other Places to Check Out

If you have extra time, these spots are worth a visit:
