The Perfect Day Antiquing in Decatur & Berne, Indiana

I'd been looking forward to this day trip all summer! I'd heard great things about the newly opened Cuckoo + Co. Antiques in Berne and Yvonne Marie's Antique Mall in Decatur and so the Rock Hounds planned a day dedicated to coffee, antiques, and local food—three of my favorite things.

Start the Morning at Sorinna's Bakery

Begin your day at Sorinna's Bakery in downtown Decatur. This cozy café was started by three friends, and everything is made from scratch using fresh ingredients.

I ordered one of their signature drinks, the Caramel Frost Iced Latte, made with toasted marshmallow, caramel, and white chocolate. I usually ask for half the sweetness, and it was absolutely delicious.

Sorinna's is also known for their homemade pastries, bagels, and scratch-made Pop-Tarts. If you're only ordering one treat, make it the espresso scone—it was one of my favorites!

Browse Three Floors at Yvonne Marie's Antique Mall

With coffee in hand, head over to Yvonne Marie's Antique Mall and spend some time exploring all three floors.

We had been especially excited to visit this shop after hearing so many recommendations. While there were plenty of booths to browse, we just didn't happen to find many of the pieces we were personally shopping for that day. That's one of the fun—and sometimes unpredictable—parts of antique shopping. Every visit is different, and inventory changes constantly.

Even though we didn't leave with many treasures this time, it was still a fun stop and worth exploring if you're in the area.

Lunch at Famous Monster Pizza

Next, head over to Famous Monster Pizza, which quickly became one of the most memorable stops of the day.

Imagine walking into a pizza restaurant that's also part horror movie museum. Every wall is covered with movie memorabilia, props, and collectibles while classic horror films play on two big screens at each end of the restaurant. Even the booths feature vintage drive-in movie speakers playing the movie audio. It was such a fun atmosphere!

Thankfully, the food was just as good as the décor.

Start with an order of the breadsticks before digging into one of their pizzas. The Rocks have a funny way of judging pizza—we rate it by how "chokey" the cheese is. (If you know, you know) Famous Monster Pizza definitely passed the test with plenty of perfectly melty, stretchy cheese.

Spend the Afternoon at Cuckoo + Co. Antiques

After lunch, make the short drive to Berne for what ended up being our favorite stop of the day—Cuckoo + Co. Antiques.

The moment we walked through the doors, we knew this place was something special.

Within minutes, all three of us were carrying treasures around the store and making trips to the front counter to start our growing piles. It was one of those magical antique shopping days where every booth seemed to have something you wanted.

My friend found the canisters she'd been searching for at a price she was excited about. I spotted not one, but two beautiful fairy lamps—something I've been hunting for without much luck lately. They were out of my budget, but just seeing them in person made my day. My other friend found the perfect oversized mirror she'd been searching for to finish her guest bathroom makeover.

We spent hours wandering the aisles and loved every minute of it. If you only have time for one antique stop on this trip, I'd make it Cuckoo + Co.

Grab Coffee for the Drive Home

Before heading home, stop by The Filling Station for one last treat.

This busy little coffee shop has a large menu with plenty of fun specialty drinks. Along with classic espresso drinks, they also offer unique options like a Cold Brew Float and a Frosted Lemonade.

It's the perfect place to grab an iced coffee for the drive home while talking about all the treasures you found throughout the day.

Final Thoughts

If you love coffee shops, antique shopping, and discovering locally owned businesses, this day trip to Decatur and Berne is well worth adding to your Indiana bucket list. While every antique store visit is different, Cuckoo + Co. Antiques alone made this getaway worth the drive, and Sorinna's Bakery and Famous Monster Pizza turned it into a day I'll definitely be repeating.
